Brief #

Upper parts are brown, the throat is sullied white and the bill is grey. The summer male has a grey nape, red head-patch and red breast.

Description #

Males are attractively marked, with a crimson forehead and breast during the spring/summer. They have a grey head, grey, short and stubby bill, brown back and a buff belly and throat. Their tails are black and white, medium in length and notched. Female lacks the seasonal crimson forehead and breast and has a buff, streaked colouring.
