Description #

Heneral appearance is gull-like but they are more bulky, have a hooked bill and sharp claws like a bird of prey; overall looking more powerful and aggressive (than what they actually are). They are strong flyers and can easily outrace similar sized or even much larger birds, performing strong direct flights with constant shallow wing beets. They have a complete brownish colour whereas some white feather tips give the bird a flecked appearance. At the end of the breeding season the body feathers look more and more used and more feather tips become white.
